Thomas McAndrew, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

Thomas J. McAndrew, 89, of the Bellevue Section of Scranton, died Monday at home. He and his wife, the former Shirley English, just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Joseph and Lucy O'Donnell McAndrew, he was an active member of St. Patrick's Parish and a graduate of West Scranton High School.

Mac was a United States Army sergeant in the 3rd Infantry, serving in the honor guard in Washington under President Eisenhower. He attended the Penn State Tool Engineering program and worked at Chamberlain Ammunition plant for more than 30 years. After retirement he drove the University of Scranton student bus and worked at Nunzi's car dealership, while also volunteering at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Scranton.

He was a member of the Lincoln Heights American Legion and a celebrated baseball player in high school, during his time in the Army, and even in his retirement. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Also surviving are a daughter, Erin McAndrew-Jervis, Archbald; two sons, Kevin and wife, Sandy, Scranton; and Tim and wife, Marion, Moosic; godson whom he raised from a young age, Paul (PJ) Penyak and wife, June, Blakely; seven grandchildren, Mandy VanFossen and husband, Kyle, Virginia; Tom and wife, Stephanie; Kevin and wife, Gina, both of Scranton; and Tia, Dunmore; Lindsay Brozzetti and husband, Michael, Elmhurst; and Ryley and Camdyn Jervis, Archbald; five great-grandchildren, Brianna, Cierra and Kylea VanFossen, Makayla and Ian McAndrew, and Vivian Brozetti; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Todd McAndrew, in 2001; three brothers, Leonard, Joseph and John McAndrew; and two sisters, Rita McDonnell and Helen Cusick.

A private funeral was held with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church and interment at Cathedral Cemetery. Military honors provided by Greater Pittston AmVets. Arrangements, Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton.
