Shirley Martin Price

Shirley Price, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

Shirley Martin Price, "Grammy Shirl," 91, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 30, in her daughter's home at Lake Winola surrounded by love. In her own words, she lived "a great life." Shirley was married to the late Joseph F. Price, for 45 years, who passed away in 1997.

Born Sept. 13, 1929, to the late Mary and Anthony Martin, she graduated from Holy Rosary High School and immediately started working at the State Building in the Public Assistance Department. Five years later she met the love of her life while summering at Lake Winola and they were married in 1952. Together they went on to raise seven children in North Scranton and they were the best parents and role models ever. Teaching us to always love and support each other, work hard and be kind. Mom never missed a sporting event or any event that her children or grandchildren were involved in. She often could be heard cheering on her children and grandchildren or yelling at the referees. She always loved unconditionally.

An active member of Holy Rosary Parish her entire life, she had a very strong faith and often would light candles, bless us with her relics and pass out ring rosaries to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their friends.

She was "Grammy Shirl" to many and she loved it.

Shirley spent her last three years as a resident of Allied Terrace where she made so many friends and really loved her community there. Bingo was the highlight of her day. A very special thank you to the entire staff that loved Shirley and that she loved in return.

Also a special thank you to Dr. Anees Fogley, her physician and friend for the last 28 years. Thanks so much for taking such good care of our Mom.

And thank you to Sacred Heart Hospice who helped make Mom's final days very calm and peaceful.

Shirley is survived by her only sister, Rosemary Garvey; an aunt, Helen McDonough; her seven children, District Judge Joanne Corbett (Jim); Attorney Joseph (Atty. Judy Gardner), Tony (Kathy Kennedy), Maureen Bender (Bill), Rosemary Van Wert (Jack Cooper), Martin (Jean Perotti) and Atty.
