John "Jack" Maloney, 85, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Mountain View Care Center on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021. His wife of 53 years, the former Vincentina Maruzzelli, preceded him in death on March 31, 2016. He was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore.

Born in Scranton on Sept. 26, 1935, he was a son of the late Walter and Alice Best Maloney. A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, he retired in 2001 after many years at Tobyhanna Army Depot. Jack served with the United States Air Force for four years, having been stationed in Korea. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force softball team and in 1956 played in the Far East Asian Softball Tournament in Japan.

Jack bowled at the 20th Ward Social Club for more than 40 years where he served as league secretary. He also bowled in the St. Mary's Social Club and Bistocchi's Mens' League. He was also a die-hard Eagles and Phillies fan.

He is survived by his six siblings, Janet Kirchner, Moosic; Alice Teserovitch and husband, John, Springboro, Ohio; James and wife, Connie, Scranton; Robert and wife, Mary Lou, Milton, Fla.; Joseph and wife, Kathy, Throop; and Thomas, Scranton; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Walter "Buddy" Maloney; and a brother in-law, Robert Kirchner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 208 Smith St., Dunmore, celebrated by the Rev. Jonathan Kuhar, followed by interment at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, PA 18505. Masks and social distancing will be required and due to capacity restrictions we ask that you limit time spent with the family and expect delays.
