Leo J. Kennedy, 91, of Scranton, passed away Tuesday at Mountain View Care Center surrounded by family. His wife of 60 years, Mary (Harrington) Kennedy, died in 2016.

Born in Vandling, he was a son of the late Leo J. and Mary T. Monahan Kennedy. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church until its closing and later St. Paul of the Cross Parish.

A graduate of Vandling High School and Mount St. Mary's College, Leo served in the Korean war as a medic and eventually a master sergeant in the United States Army, earning two bronze stars.

He owned and operated Kennedy Distributing of Jermyn until retirement.

Surviving are daughters, Patricia Kennedy, of Scranton; Maureen May and husband, John, of Vestal, N.Y.; son, John Kennedy and wife, Deborah, of Clarks Summit; grandchildren, Bridget Akel, Patrick May, Kathleen Lewis, Tara Griffiths, Maura Kettel, Sean Kennedy; sister-in-law, Anne Harrington, of Scranton; and brother-in-law, Edward Harrington and wife, Nancy, of Clarks Summit; 10 great-grandchildren, Alexander, Joseph and Juliana May, John, Theodore and Amelia Lewis, Kennedy Griffiths, Adela and Maeve Kettel, and Desmond Kennedy; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Mary McAllister, Margaret Smith and Catherine Kilonsky.

The family would like to thank the staff at Mountain View Care Center for their kindness and care for Leo.

The funeral will be Saturday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Hearts Church at St. Paul of the Cross Parish, 1217 Prospect Ave., Scranton, celebrated by the Rev. Scott Sterowski, pastor, followed by interment at St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Pleasant Mount.

Friends and family can call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, PA 18505.
