Andrew J. O'Brien

Andrew O'Brien, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

Andrew J. O'Brien, 71, of Scranton, died unexpectedly at home on Saturday, June 19, 2021, due to complications from a recent surgery. The son of the late James and Mary O'Brien, Andrew was raised in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. He graduated from St. Paul's High School and went on to attend the University of Scranton.

Andrew, a proud husband and father, is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara "Cissy" O'Brien (nee Kelly); as well as his three children, Maggie O'Brien, Casey O'Brien and Conor O'Brien; as well as his granddaughter, Anna Aebli. Also surviving are his siblings, Joseph, James, John and Janet; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins.

Andy, known as one of the "golfing O'Briens" was an avid golfer and longtime member of the Elmhurst Country Club. He previously served on the Scranton School Board and was active for many years in regional politics. He was a lover of sports, long walks and music, having traveled across the country to see some of the greatest acts of his generation.

Retired from his role as clerk of central court for Lackawanna County, he was involved in numerous philanthropic and volunteer causes, including driving part time for Meals on Wheels of Northeast Pa. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and the lives of many in the community he generously impacted. A clever wit, a keen intuition and a giving heart were just a few of the traits he will most be remembered for.

Friends may call Friday, June 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave. A funeral service will be privately held at the convenience of the family.

Donations in Andrew's honor may be made to the Make A Wish Foundation (checks are made payable to Make-A-Wish and sent to 327 N. Washington Ave. Suite 501, Scranton, PA 18503) or online at site.wish.org/goto/scrantonoffice2021.
