Mary Ellen Williams

Mary Ellen Williams, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

Mary Ellen Williams, 77, of Dunmore, died peacefully Sunday Oct 12 at Gracedale Nursing Home, Nazareth. She was the beloved wife of David Williams Jr., of Dunmore, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage.

Born in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Beatrice Lydon McKeel and a devoted member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Parish, Dunmore. A graduate of South Catholic High School, she was employed by FNCB for 30 years, where she worked as a Loan Operations Supervisor. When her children were young, she was an active member of her community and served as volunteer for several organizations, including the Dunmore Biddy Basketball League, the St. Mary's School Parent-Teacher Association, and The Dunmore Little League, where she served as Treasurer.

She loved taking trips to the local casino and Atlantic City with her husband and her Aunt Ann, and she held a deep love and admiration for Notre Dame Football. She was passionate about her Irish heritage and joyfully celebrated that, especially on her favorite holiday, St. Patrick's Day.

She took great pride in her family, and as a young mother of three boys playing sports, she never missed a game and always had a front row seat to cheer them on. She cherished her grandchildren, and she was always present for every milestone to celebrate their accomplishments, birthdays and graduations.

She was a proud, devoted, loving and supportive mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She will be remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends.

Also surviving are three sons, David C. Williams and wife, Kristina Nolan; Kevin Williams, and Brian Williams; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kevin, Brian, Emily, Justin, Ciara, and Joe and wife, Brandi Ann; a great-granddaughter, Charlie Ann; a sister, Therese Granahan and husband, Michael; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael McKeel.

The funeral will be Monday, Oct. 20 with Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, 322 Chestnut St., Dunmore. Friends may call Sunday, Oct. 19, from 5 to 8 pm at the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave. Those attending Mass are asked to proceed directly to the church. In lieu of sending flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America at www.dementiasociety.org.
