Eugene Thomas Cadden, Pre-arranged Funerals, Neil Regan Funeral Home, Scranton, PA

Eugene Thomas Cadden, 93, died Wednesday, December 17th at Hospice of the Sacred Heart. On November 26th, he and his wife, the former Alice Kenney, celebrated 54 years of marriage. Born and raised in the Bellevue section of Scranton, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary McDonough Cadden. He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Gene attended West Scranton High School and later the University of Scranton. He was a cofounder of Cadden Brothers Beer Distributor, which will be celebrating 70 years in business in 2026. Gene also worked for RCA, General Motors, and ICS prior to being elected a district magistrate, a position he held for 24 years.

Everyone knew him as "Uncle Gene," and his kind and generous spirit was obvious to everyone he met. As a magistrate he judged with empathy and careful consideration of the circumstances. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by many dear nieces and nephews he loved as his own: Mark O'Toole, Michael O'Toole and Marty O'Toole; Daniel Cadden, Mary Ann Verterano, Kathleen Cadden and Colleen Cadden; Laurie Cadden, Barbara Cadden, Jim Cadden, and Timothy Cadden; Kate Cadden Joyce, Billy Cadden, and Jim Cadden.

He was preceded in death by his siblings: Mary O'Toole, Jack Cadden, Mike Cadden, Jim Cadden, Joe Cadden and Bill Cadden; close cousin, Thomas Cavanaugh; and six nieces and nephews: Maureen O'Toole, Michael Cadden, Jerry Cadden, Jimmy Cadden, Terry Cadden, and Jacky Cadden.

Friends and family may call Friday, December 19th, from 3 to 6 p.m. or Saturday, December 20th, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, 1605 Oram St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the chapel, celebrated by Rev. Richard A. Fox, pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
